What are Good Christening Gifts?

In Part 2 of this series of Christening Gifts, Pam looks at what she believes are some good gifts to give for the occasion.

In this previous article, I discussed what the best gift for Christening is. Although the best gift is conceptual and helps faith growth, and I suggest you give it regardless, there are really good gifts you can purchase and give.

Giving a locket with the baby's photo from the baptism is a good idea, not only because lockets are beautiful but because of great memories it will bring in the future as the parents reminisce with the child. The downside of this is that the gift is typically for the mother and passed later on when the child is older.

Imaging how a quilt keeps you warm and you will understand the relationship of God's arms holding you keep and secure. This gift symbolically represents this event which the parent can tell the child over and over each night. It will help them grow in faith and trust in God with the repeated message of love.

A handmade quilt is a wonderful gift but even if you can't sew one yourself, you can usually purchase them in a specialty store. Embroider the child's name and the date of the baptism on the back of the quilt as a reminder of the christening.

These are just a few ideas you can use. In my next article, I will tell you what I think is best if the child is a baby girl.
